DAAD Grants for Study and Research in Germany

Award information

An agreement between the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, or German Academic Exchange Service) and Boston University provides BU graduating seniors and graduate students the opportunity to apply for study or research scholarships in Germany during the next academic year.

Study Scholarships: final year undergraduate students for a full master’s degree program at a German university, or for study at a German university as part of a postgraduate or Master’s degree program completed in the home country.

Research Grants in Germany: doctoral students in a US program (or those who will be enrolled by the beginning of funding) interested in a research project in Germany for funding between 7-12 months.

Eligibility

  • BU seniors who expect to graduate in May, current graduate students, doctoral students, and Ph.D. candidates.
  • Applicants in all academic fields are welcome to apply.
  • U.S., permanent residents.
  • Research Grant applicants should have a well-defined study or research project that makes a stay in Germany essential.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have been invited by a faculty member at a German university to study or do research in a particular department.
  • Language proficiency commensurate with the proposed course of study/research. Applicants in the arts, humanities, and social sciences should have a good command of the German language.

Application information

BU students who wish to apply for a DAAD Study Scholarship or Research Grant must complete the DAAD online application form and send us a PDF copy of all application materials to BU’s Office of Fellowships and Scholarships by October 18.
