BU Merit Scholarships for Juniors
About the awards
Boston University’s Harold C. Case and Dean Elsbeth Melville scholarships are awarded to outstanding juniors every spring in support of their senior year. These awards recognize scholarly accomplishment and potential as well as extra-curricular activities that contribute to the University.
Scholarship recipients receive between $3,000.00 and full tuition depending on financial need. Funds can only be applied to undergraduate study. The awards generally support 15 or more juniors each year.
Eligibility
- Enrolled undergraduates in their junior year
- Minimum GPA of 3.5
- All nationalities may apply, but only U.S. citizens are eligible for award money greater than $3,000.
Selection criteria
- Scholarly Achievements: GPA, coursework, co-curricular activities, research outside of the classroom, conferences, presentations, etc.
- Extracurricular Involvement: sustained engagement in activities, clubs, or organizations that contribute to the University and the BU community.
- Potential for future contributions in their chosen fields
Application procedures
The deadline to apply for the junior merit scholarships has passed.
- Completed scholarship application
- Personal statement: Please describe your most important academic interest(s) and extracurricular commitments (1000 words max)
- Resume
- Unofficial transcript(s)
- Three letters of recommendation. Two letters should be academic in nature from faculty who know your work well. One letter should address your extracurricular involvement and contributions.
- Students must specify their recommenders’ details and request recommendation letters through the application portal. Note: Recommendation letter requests can be sent through our Infoready application portal after saving your application as a DRAFT.
- Once the official letter request is sent, recommenders will receive a link through which they should submit their signed letters addressed to the “Case and Melville Scholarships Selection Committee” by the deadline above.
