The City of Chelsea is looking for 10 volunteers to assist with the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Chelsea Creek on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

ABOUT THE EVENT
The City of Chelsea is seeking volunteers for the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Chelsea Creek on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 11 AM – 4 PM at Port Park (99 Marginal St, Chelsea, MA). This event will commemorate the first naval battle of the American Revolution and feature historical reenactments, an encampment, artillery demonstrations, food vendors, and a visit from the SSV Ernestina-Morrissey, a historic 1894 schooner.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for approximately 10 student volunteers to assist with event logistics and visitor engagement.

Volunteers will help with:

  • Public Engagement – Welcoming guests, sharing historical talking points, and conducting a brief visitor survey.
  • Event Support – Assisting with check-ins for reenactors, food vendors, and general event logistics.
  • Site Assistance – Helping visitors navigate the event, answer questions, and direct them to key attractions.

Additionally, volunteers can also participate in:

  • Memorial Day Boat Tour – Welcoming guests aboard a special boat tour in partnership with Boston Harbor Now and National Park Service.
  • Governor Bellingham Cary House Open House – Greeting visitors at this historic site in Chelsea.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enthusiasm for history, community engagement, and public events.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, welcoming attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • No prior experience necessary—just a willingness to help!

SCHEDULE & COMMITMENT
The event runs from 11 AM – 4 PM, but we are flexible with volunteer availability.

Volunteers may choose to assist for part or all of the event.

TO SIGN UP
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Lourdes Alvarez at lalvarez@chelseama.gov.

We also encourage students and community members to attend the celebration and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime historical event!
