Bennett Goldberg, a professor in the CAS Physics Department, has been inspiring students and conducting cutting-edge research for decades. Now, he has been given this year’s United Methodist Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award in recognition of his commitment to both teaching and research.

Professor Goldberg is Director of BU’s Center for Nanoscience and Nanobiotechnology and is also professor in the departments of Biomedical Engineering and Electrical & Computer Engineering. For 23 years, Professor Goldberg’s passion and prowess for cutting-edge research and practical discoveries in the fields of condensed matter physics, nanomedicine and advanced energy have been matched only by his unique ability to mentor and motivate students to successfully pursue science careers. Professor Goldberg’s ongoing research advances and forward-looking perspective, his status as a leader in his field, and his celebration by colleagues as a committed champion of his students’ success make him an outstanding selection this year.

Each fall, a distinguished member of the Boston University faculty is recognized for his or her “dedication and contributions to the learning arts and to the institution” with the United Methodist Scholar/Teacher of the Year award. This is a special honor established and endowed by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church. The embrace of this dual role, as scholar and as teacher, is at the heart of Boston University’s mission.
