The story of computing and data sciences at 波士顿大学 (BU) — one of the largest private institutions in the U.S., with 37,000+ students,10,000+ faculty and staff, and 17 schools and colleges —  dates back to the 1980s. 由于在相关新濠影汇线上赌场研究领域（如人工神经网络和高性能计算）和相关学位课程（如计算机科学、统计学、计算机工程、信息系统、神经科学和生物信息学）的早期投资，波士顿大学拥有完美的跑道，可以启动其雄心勃勃的旅程，进入计算和数据驱动的发现和创新的世界。

A notable milestone came in 2011 with the creation of the Rafik B. Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science and Engineering [Hariri Institute] under the leadership of 火矮人Bestavros as its founding director. 哈里里新濠影汇线上赌场研究所是作为一个全校范围的孵化器成立的，通过利用波士顿大学在现有中心的优势，并率先开展大学的数据科学计划（DSI），加速各学科的数据驱动新濠影汇线上赌场研究。

By 2017, buoyed by over 1亿美元的新濠影汇线上赌场研究经费 secured through the Hariri Institute, increased interest from across campus in data-driven scholarship, the evident popularity of computing-related experiential learning programs offered through BU火花!, and explosive enrollments in cognate degree programs, BU made its biggest investment yet by setting out to build its 段家计算与数据科学中心 (newly named in December 2024) —  这是一个19层、38万平方英尺、最先进的标志性设施，位于校园中心，是波士顿大学在数据科学领域的支柱和实体体现。

In tandem with the design and planning for this building, in the summer of 2018, BU assembled a 专责小组 to envision the future of data science education and research at the university. A year later, on the recommendation of the 专责小组, BU announced the creation of the 计算与数据科学学院 (CDS): a university-wide, tenure-home, and degree-granting academic unit, comprising scholars and researchers in core and applied areas of computing, computational, and data-driven inquiry. In December 2019, Bestavros was selected to lead this new academic unit as the 首任计算机与数据科学副教务长. 不久之后，CDS从整个大学任命了30名“创始教员”，在CDS的两年启动阶段提供管理，主要是监督教员招聘和学术项目发展。

CDS作为嵌入教务长办公室的跨领域学术单位的模式在全国是独一无二的。 CDS is distinct from the existing cognate academic units in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) 计算机科学/CS and 数学与统计学/Stats) and the 工程学院 (ECE) at BU.   • 2014年：软件与应用创新实验室在哈里里新濠影汇线上赌场研究所成立
  • 2014年：数据科学倡议（DSI）在哈里里新濠影汇线上赌场研究所（CDS的前身）孵化。
  • 2015年：教务长数据科学招聘计划启动
  • 2015年：中国科学院启动统计实践硕士项目
  • 2016: BU火花! An incubator and experiential learning lab is created
  • 2017年：计算、法律和社会网络联盟成立（现为光盘）
  • 2017年：人工智能新濠影汇线上赌场研究（AIR）倡议在哈里里新濠影汇线上赌场研究所启动
  • 2018年：中国科学院启动人工智能硕士项目
  • 2019年：波士顿大学设想数据科学工作组发布建议
  • 2019年: 创建计算机与数据科学学院（CDS）
  • 2020: 计算机与数据科学博士学位 launches in CDS
  • 2021年：第一位终身教职员工被任命为CDS

  • 2024: 在线数据科学硕士课程 launches in CDS
  • 2024年12月24日：段氏计算与数据科学中心大楼命名； 成立了段氏家族新濠影汇线上赌场研究员
  • 2025年：CDS进入稳态
