In high school, Lugina volunteered at the local library, where the staff painted the windows in the children’s room with illustrations from picture books, like 埃里克·卡尔’s 非常饥饿的毛毛虫. 她发现这个过程能让她平静下来，而且很喜欢看孩子们看到自己喜欢的角色被画得比真人大时的反应。
