Boston University College of Fine Arts is pleased to announce a Sculpture alumnus, Brian McLean, nominated for an Oscar this season.

McLean is Director of Rapid Prototype for Laika Entertainment, LLC., an American stop-motion animation studio specializing in feature films, commercial content for all media, music videos and short films. The company is best known for its stop-motion feature films, Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls and Kubo and the Two Strings.

Brian McLean and his VFX team are nominated for an Oscar in stop-motion animation for Kubo and the Two Strings.

His past achievements with Laika include winning an Annie Award in 2009 for Special Achievement in Animation for his work on Coraline and, following the release of ParaNorman, being named by Variety as one of 2012’s “Animation Elite.” He is also the recipient of a Scientific and Engineering Award (Academy Plaque) from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The 89th annual celebration of the Academy Awards, hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will be broadcast Sunday February 26th, at 7pm.
