What’s your most memorable College of General Studies experience?

“The experiences I had while serving on the College of General Studies Student Government. Initially I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do my freshman year. Then I saw an advertisement for joining student government. It was something I never did in high school or even imagined I would do in college but decided it was worth trying and showed up to a meeting. My freshman year I was the VP of advertising and sophomore year was elected to the executive board as treasurer. The defining moment for me was when we got printers installed in the Katzenberg Center on the 3rd floor because, with hard work, we were able to make students’ lives a little easier. Overall, being on student government taught me the value of trying new things.”

What value did the College of General Studies provide to your education?

“As a business major, I’m taught to see the world through metrics and performance measures. But CGS allowed me to also see the world through a philosophical, sociological and scientific standpoint. I think having that dual perspective helps me to make informed business decisions. It also allows me to have well-rounded conversations outside the classroom.”

When you’re not in the classroom, what do you do?

“I try to do a little of everything because I love experiencing new things! I was in the CGS Student Government my freshman and sophomore year and also was the sound designer for Boston University on Broadway. Sophomore and junior year I worked for a non-profit startup launched entirely by Questrom Students with the mission to help high school students in underserved areas get into college. I’ve also been involved in the co-ed community service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega (APO), as a treasurer. Through APO I’ve logged in over 100 hours of community service throughout the Greater Boston Area.”

What’s your favorite place to go in Boston?

“The South End. The South End is such a lively neighborhood with great restaurants and boutique shops. It feels like a town within the city. I lived there for 2 summers while interning at Boston based financial groups and had the time of my life. Everyone at BU should definitely check it out!”
