BU Chemistry Welcomes Professor Xin Chen to Faculty

Professor Xin Chen is an experimental physical chemist and his interdisciplinary research at Boston University is in the area of the surface chemistry of soft materials.
Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. in 2005 from Stanford University, working with Professor John Brauman in the field of gas-phase ion chemistry. Following his Ph.D, he had two highly productive postdoctoral appointments.
The first, from 2005 to 2008, was with Professor Paul Cremer, Texas A&M University, where he pioneered the use of vibrational sum-frequency spectroscopy to study how small molecule co-solutes, such as salts and osmolytes, affect interfacial water structures near proteins.
His second postdoctoral appointment, 2008-2011, was with Professor George Whitesides, Harvard University, in the area of organic electrets (objects that bear a net charge) and elastic materials.
