Role summary:

Working closely with our Knowledge Management Specialist, the Database Developer will be a member of the team responsible for the development of an internal research management system using both MS SQL and Marklogic Enterprise NoSQL servers. This role will include influencing database and architecture decisions and owning the database development lifecycle for the entire company. The role requires having a high sense of ownership of problems and requests, establishing and maintaining communication with analysts and consultants, and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within established timeframes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, test, implement and maintain new databases and warehousing in both SQL and NoSQL databases , supporting ingestion, storage and access to data
  • Ensure the integrity and security of data
  • Create necessary technical and architectural documentation and provide assistance in developing training materials for end users
  • Provide support to users as necessary
  • Actively identify and participate in training and development activities to improve personal knowledge and performance to enhance professional development
  • Develop applications and automate processes for established database infrastructure

Required skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field; related coursework in database development, big data, data warehousing, business intelligence etc.
  • 2 – 5 years hands-on experience in SQL database design and development (professional, internship or academic)
  • 1 + years of experience with at least one NoSQL database system (professional, internship or academic)

Preferred experience (not necessary to apply):

  • Marklogic Enterprise NoSQL server
  • Java and XML including XPath/XQuery, XSD, XSLT
  • Data warehousing, BI and ETL tools
  • Search engine development/administration
  • C# / .NET 4.5 or higher
  • SharePoint
