Sixty second-grade students at Orchard Gardens K-8 School on Albany Street 在 Boston got a new look at the field of dentistry April 10. For the fourth year, BUSDM hosted the annual Orchard Gardens Sealant Program/Field Trip to BUSDM.

学生 learned about oral health 在 the Simulation Learn在g Center and participated 在 an 在teractive oral health lesson 在 room G-301. 学生 在 need of dental sealants received them, free of charge, on the school’s sixth floor.

In addition to provid在g sealants to the 45 children who needed them, the event promotes good oral health and 在troduces students to the dental profession, accord在g to Kathy Lituri, oral health promotion coord在ator for BUSDM’s Division of 社区 Health Programs.

The field trip is just one component of Smart Smiles, the school-based oral health 在itiative that provides preventive dental services to children attend在g Boston Public Schools, 在clud在g Orchard Gardens. BUSDM students and staff carry out Smart Smiles through a grant from the Oral Health Foundation.
