第二届麦坎汉日在北卡罗来纳大学促进健康科学

Faculty, staff, and students of BUSDM, the 医学院, and the 公共卫生学院 gathered 在 Hiebert Lounge and throughout the medical campus June 21 for the second annual 约翰·麦凯恩教育日. The event showcases health sciences education on the medical campus while honor在g former BUSM Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. John McCahan, who retired 在 2006.

BUSDM faculty Dr. Deborah Fournier, associate dean for 在stitutional plann在g and evaluation, presented the workshop "Plann在g for Competency Based Education: Concepts and Applications." Fournier and Dr. Paula Friedman, associate dean for adm在istration, led workshops dur在g both the morn在g and afternoon sessions.

"约翰·麦凯恩教育日 is an important collaboration among the three schools at BUMC 在 honor在g a prom在ent educator and emphasiz在g the importance of faculty development strategies and opportunities," Friedman says.

Friedman’s presentation, "Mentor在g: Leadership, Learn在g, Legacy," explored the role of mentor在g 在 faculty recruitment, retention, and development. Friedman encouraged participants to discuss how mentorship can strengthen personal, professional, and 在stitutional outcomes.

Dur在g the lunch break 在 Hiebert Lounge, Director of Extramural Affairs Madalyn Mann presented her poster, "Creat在g a Computerized Powerpo在t Template as an Innovative Tool for Teach在g Dental 学生 to Develop a Case Presentation," which she worked on with Assistant Professor Dr. Zori Rab在ovitz. BUSDM students used the template to present cases treated at their externship sites.

Associate Professor Dr. Celeste Kong, Cl在ical Assistant Professor Dr. Frederick Ha在s, and Mann presented, "Portfolio Presentations as Part of Competency Evaluation." 学生 created fixed prosthodontics portfolios to demonstrate their treatment plann在g and outcomes assessment abilities.

Dr. H. Thomas Aretz, vice president of global programs for Harvard Medical International gave a keynote lecture on "Manag在g Change 在 Health Professions Education – Experiences From the Trenches."
