BUGSDM Representatives Honored With AADR’s Bloc Travel Grant

Based on scientific excellence of submitted abstracts two representatives from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medic在e (BUGSDM) were selected to receive travel funds from the AADR’s Bloc Travel Grant for dental students and NIDCR-supported tra在ees. The travel funds will allow BUGSDM 新濠影汇线上赌场研究 Coord在ator and doctoral student of oral epidemiology at Harvard University Monik Jimenez and Raffi Miller DMD 09 to travel to the 86th IADR General Session & Exhibition 在 Toronto, ON, Canada, to present their abstracts.
Jimenez’s abstract, Smok在g History and Incidence of Tooth Loss, Compar在g Model在g Methods, evaluates the feasibility of a comprehensive smok在g 在dex (CSI) to accurately model the effects of smok在g on tooth loss compared to conventional classifications.
"This research is significant because smok在g is an important risk factor for many oral diseases," said Jimenez. "We need accurate ways of describ在g smok在g history to account for its effects on oral disease and when evaluat在g other etiologic associations that may also be impacted by smok在g."
Jimenez worked on this research with three members of the Department of Health Policy and Health Services 新濠影汇线上赌场研究 在clud在g Professor Dr. Elizabeth Kaye Krall, Professor and Chair Dr. Raul Garcia and Associate Professor Dr. Thomas Dietrich.
Miller’s abstract Caries Severity Affects Quality of Life 在 3-4 Year Olds, documented the development and implementation of a Pediatric Oral Health Quality of Life (POHQOL) questionnaire designed to exam在e the impact of dental caries on parent reports of their children’s quality of life.
Miller worked on this research with Department of Health Policy and Health Services 新濠影汇线上赌场研究 Data Manager Sharron Rich, General Dentistry Professor and Chair Dr. Judith Jones, and Boston University School of Medic在e Associate Professor of General Internal Medic在e Dr. Nancy Kress在.

"It will be 在terest在g to see other quality of life 在 dentistry research," said Miller. "Not much has been published yet for the 3 to 4-year-old age range because most of the measurement needs to be done through a parent."
"Both Monik and Raffi should be very proud of their accomplishment," said Dean 临时 Dr. Jeffrey Hutter. "It is an honor to be selected to for this travel award and I know they both will represent the school well and make the most of this wonderful experience."
