Ceremony Honors 2010 AEGD Graduates

A ceremony to honor the 2010 graduates of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program (AEGD) was held on the 18th floor of 10 Buick Street on June 25. The Student Village location treated guests to a panoramic view of the city of Boston.

AEGD Director Dr. John Cassis hosted the event and addressed the graduates. He said, "As AEGD residents you provided the best care to our patients in all disciplines of general dentistry. Your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm have made you great general dentists. As your Director I continue to be very proud of all of you." He continued, "I have enjoyed every day I spent with you and only wish that from now on we continue to stay united and keep in touch."

Dr. Cassis also read an address to the students prepared by Professor & Chair of Restorative Science/Biomaterials Dr. Dan Nathanson, who could not attend.

"Unfortunately I am not able to be present at your graduation party and share with you this festive evening so I have asked Dr. Cassis to read these few lines for me," wrote Dr. Nathanson. "You have earned your Certificate of Graduate Studies through hard work in a very intensive program. I am sure that the experiences and knowledge gained in the program has elevated you to a higher level of proficiency and confidence; qualities that will continue to serve you throughout your career." Dr. Nathanson continued, "Our program is blessed with excellent faculty and we attract the best residents; making this a winning combination. Congratulations for your accomplishments and for graduating successfully from the program."

Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter attended the celebration and also congratulated the graduates. "You were selected from a large applicant pool for one of fourteen spots in this prestigious postgraduate program," said Dean Hutter. "You have not only successfully completed the program, you have also set the bar very high for the AEGD classes that follow. I am very pleased to now count you among our distinguished alumni and I wish you success in your future careers."

Awards were also presented at the celebration. Katrina Baeverstad AEGD 10 and Talia Schechter AEGD 10 were joint winners of the Clinical Excellence Award and Dr. Baeverstad also won the Clinical Proficiency Award. Clinical Instructors Dr. Ghyath Alkhalil and Dr. Ryota Kikuchi were both honored with Faculty Recognition of Service Awards.
