BUSDM Faculty, Student Help Lead International Research Conference

Members of the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology will discuss their latest research in the field of glycobiology at the Gordon Research Conference on Glycobiology in Ventura, California, March 4 to 9.

The event invites students and scientists at all stages of their careers to share findings related to glycobiology, the study of chains of sugars.

As part of the Microbes and Parasites session, Dr. John Samuelson will deliver a talk on "Positive Selection for N-linked Glycosylation in Eukaryotes with N-glycan-associated Quality Control of Protein Folding and Negative Selection for N-glycan in Apicoplexa." Dr. Carlos B. Hirschberg, department chair, and Dr. Phil W. Robbins will serve as co-chairs of the Glycan Biosynthesis session. Postdoctoral fellow Carolina E. Caffaro will present "Functional Redundancy of Nucleotide Sugar Transporters in C. elegans" in the Evolution and Development session.

"I’m glad to have been accepted to present my work," says Caffaro. "These [conferences] are very small meetings where selected people from a specific field discuss novel projects and results."
