Santa Claus Comes to Hiebert Lounge for the 2016 GSDM Holiday Party

Arguably the most attended holiday party in Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine’s (GSDM) history brought together over 325 students, residents, faculty, and staff for a fun-filled evening of food, music, and holiday cheer. Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter played host for the festivities that were highlighted by a photo booth, gingerbread house contest, raffle prize giveaways, and spectacular food and dessert catered by Chequers Café.
Live, holiday-themed music created an ambiance for the evening, as Hiebert Lounge was decorated from floor to ceiling in elegant splashes of silver, white, and sparkles to set the winter scene. Even a crackling fireplace was projected on a screen as the beautiful Boston skyline was clearly visible in the distance. A dessert table and hot chocolate bar were also a hit among the guests, who mixed and mingled with their fellow GSDM community members.

Throughout the night, everyone in attendance was able to examine and analyze each of the 12 intricately decorated and constructed gingerbread houses that were put together by teams of students, residents, faculty, and staff. There was a wide-range of themes, from a beach bungalow to a Molar Express train to even the proposed new GSDM facility. In the end, the team made up of Farnaz Bayani AS 17; Maedeh Sedaghati AS 17; Mahdieh Beheshti AS 17; Maryam Mohammadvali Samani AS 17; Babak Javidi Dasht Bayazi AS 17; Kambiz Khalilinejad AS 17; Sahar Sadjadian Mousavi AS 17. This is back-to-back wins for this team. Their house, a Hansel and Gretel-esque construction, was a kaleidoscope of colors and candy with lots of attention to detail. A candy-cane pathway led to the front door, while ornate plant pots were scattered around. Icicles even hung from the roof!
The winning raffle tickets were drawn and the respective prizes were handed out by Dean Hutter, one in each category for a student and faculty/staff member. This year’s prizes were; an Oral-B Electric Toothbrush donated by Student Affairs, a BU Fleece also donated by Student Affairs, an Echo Dot, Powerbeats 2 Wireless Headphones; a Fitbit Charge 2, and an Apple TV.

Dean Hutter also thanked everyone for attending the Holiday Celebration along with wishing everyone a very Happy, Healthy and Safe holiday season and intersession break. “I always enjoy spending the holiday season with everyone in our GSDM family,” said Dean Hutter.
