Special Report from Step by Step: The Path to Ending Child Mortality

September 9th, 2013 in Outside Announcements

Dear friends,

This week we launched our latest GlobalPost Special Report “Step by Step: The Path to Ending Child Mortality.”  If you have not had a chance to see it, please take the time to explore. This was an extraordinary reporting effort that stretched across three continents and six months by a talented team of journalists who have produced an important body of work on an under-covered story. It is powerful, innovative, interactive, narrative storytelling at its best.

The topic is not an easy one: Nearly 7 million children die before the age of 5 every year, largely from preventable causes. But, as our reporting team discovered, it is not all bad news in the struggle to end child mortality. The under-5 death rate is steadily declining due to many successful, even heroic efforts. So we have set out to look at what works — as well as difficult challenges —  on the hard road to ending child mortality.

Sincerely,
Charles M. Sennott

IH Career Planning Round Table-beings September 10th

September 5th, 2013 in Fellowships

THE IH CAREER PLANNING ROUND TABLE

THE IH CAREER PLANNING ROUND TABLE (formerly the Job Seekers' Support Group) for BUSPH IH concentrators will be kicking off on Tuesday, September 10 from 12:30 – 1:50.  Meetings will be held every other week in the CrossTown. Weekly participation is not mandatory; drop-ins are welcome.

This is a great opportunity for those who have taken Career P.R.E.P., are actively looking for a position – internship, practicum, or THE JOB, and appreciate the boost that working with a group can give. This is a natural progression from resume revision, cover letter development and elevator pitches. The round table will help keep your momentum, facilitate sharing among group members, and fine tune search techniques, to build your confidence. Interactive activities will include topic-specific discussions and activities, experience and strategy sharing, giving and receiving feedback, and networking.

While being physically present at the meeting is optimal and expected by most of you in Boston, some recent grads have already moved out of state, but would still like to participate. If you would like to be included, please contact me as we are willing to pilot conference call participation.

Please contact Patricia Burns, Practitioner-in-Residence directly @ pjburns@bu.edu for questions and to sign up.
