Interested in meeting people working in Africa, helping a great organization, and celebrating South Africa’s success? Volunteer for South Africa Partners’ 2014 Itheko (gala)!

The event, which is their annual fundraising gala, will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge.

South Africa Partners has a lot to celebrate this year. We will be marking the 20th anniversary of South Africa’s free elections and the 15th anniversary of South Africa Partners’ operations.

In addition, we will be honoring two extraordinary South Africans with our Desmond Tutu Social Justice Award—Justice Albie Sachs and Temba Maqubela. In presenting Temba and Albie with the Desmond Tutu Social Justice Award, we will be honoring their personal and professional contributions to fighting apartheid and building a democratic South Africa. Albie epitomizes the best in humanity and stands as an inspiration to action for South Africans and the social justice community worldwide. As an educator, Temba’s reach has expanded the horizons of countless students from around the world and empowered them to become active global citizens. We will also recognize the contributions of Artists for a New South Africa with our Global Citizen Award.

If anyone is interested in volunteering, we request that they commit to a seven-hour span that evening, arriving at the Sonesta at 3:30 PM and departing at approximately 10:30 PM. We will provide them with dinner. The tasks for that night will include set-up, assisting with registration, greeting and orienting guests, assisting with our exciting new art raffle, and clean-up after the event. Their assistance that evening would be invaluable in ensuring that it is a memorable and smoothly-run event for all of our guests.

Please let me know if you are interested! (Free dinner, networking, and learning – does it get any better?!)
