Institute hosts Workshop for Codebreakers Program
The Codebreakers outreach program, an extension of the Institute’s existing and successful Artemis outreach program, has been renewed for a second year. Led by Cynthia Brossman and supported by RISCS Co-Director Mayank Varia, Institute Fellow Sharon Goldberg and Junior Faculty Fellow Manuel Egele, this 4-week summer program provides 24 high school girls with the opportunity to learn about cryptography and network security.
The SAIL team was invited to host a guest lecture as part of the program’s mission to introduce high school female students to professionals in STEM and related fields. Hosting the workshop at the Hariri Institute allowed the students an opportunity to experience a research software engineering environment at Boston University.
San Tran (SAIL Research Development & Consulting Manager) will be co-leading the workshop, with contributors Shreya Pandit (SAIL Software Engineer), Aditi Dass (SAIL Software Engineer Intern), and Rawane Issa (SAIL Software Engineer Fellow). The two-hour workshop consisted of an overview of SAIL and the team’s projects, an introduction to Multi-Party Computing (MPC), and an interactive group exercise that allowed the students to dive deeper into MPC techniques by applying them to different case studies. Both Rawane and Aditi are heavily involved in MPC-related research this summer. Aditi was also a Codebreakers coordinator last summer.
