BU AIEM Awarded $1M NSF Grant

BU researchers from the Hariri-housed Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Media (AIEM) team have received a grant from the National Science Foundation to fund their project “BIGDATA: IA: Multiplatform, Multilingual, and Multimodal Tools for Analyzing Public Communication in over 100 Languages”.

Led by Artificial Intelligence Research Initiative (AIR) Core Faculty member Margrit Betke, members of the awarded group include Derry Wijaya, Assistant Professor in Computer Science, Lei Guo, Assistant Professor in the College of Communications, and Prakash IshwarProfessor in the College of Engineering. The project will incorporate machine learning and deep learning techniques to develop analytical tools that will be useful for social scientists when evaluating data around international patterns of communication.
