IoC Cohosts Symposium on the Latin American Urban Experience
On April 9th, the Initiative on Cities co-hosted a mini-conference, together with the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer Range Future, on “The Latin American Urban Experience: Crisis, Creativity, and Renewal”, which featured two panels including BU Faculty and students discussing major issues and everyday life in Latin American Cities.
IoC Co-Director Tom Menino made the closing remarks, discussing the Latin American and Latino Experience in Boston and the programs implemented during his tenure as Mayor of Boston to ease the immigrant transition to life in the U.S. The Office of New Bostonians, launched during the Menino Administration, was discussed as a critical mechanism for positively engaging newly arrived residents with the services offered by the City of Boston and its partners.
