Excerpt from the event website:
Every child’s worse nightmare is what the children of TPS parents are living with everyday!
We heard a 12 year old boy crying that he wants to be with his father as often as he can, because he knows he may not be able to see him again if he gets deported.
We heard a 9 year old girl wishing to see the president and ask him how would he feel if he was a 9 year old and someone threatened to take his parents away.
We heard so many mothers crying that if they get deported they will have to leave their children here in U.S. for widespread gang violence in El Salvador, not knowing when, or if they will see them again.
Dear friends,
These are only some of the heartbreaking experiences that members of the Boston Experimental Theatre had a few months ago during a one-day workshop with The Massachusetts TPS Committee. On that very day, we all asked ourselves: but what about the children? The Trump administration has ended crucial protections for immigrants from six countries. Over 300,000 people are losing legal Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and more individuals may face the same fate in coming months. Those with children born in U.S.A. are faced with leaving their love ones here alone, or bringing them back to an unknown, dangerous country.
This past summer, B.E.T. in a collaboration with The Massachusetts TPS Committee, organized theatre workshops to bring together some of the children of TPS parents. Here, we were able to hear their stories and create a play together using a devise drama. What we are working with so far in these workshops are our stories, our bodies, our imaginations, our fear and anxiety, and the dream that these children will celebrate their next birthdays with their parents here, in the country they call home. What we need now the most is YOUR support and presence to show the children and the community of TPS that they are not alone. Please help us spread the word by sharing this event and letting your friends know about this. Loosing a parent is never easy, imagine being just a teenager, and our parents are going to be taken away by no fault of their own. As a friend of Boston Experimental Theatre, we ask you to join us for our first performance to support the hard work of these children, learn more about TPS, and how to get involved and help.
