Afro-Colombian Music, Culture & Politics: Canalón de Timbiquí (11.20.20)
Hailing from the town of Timbiquí on the Pacific coast of Colombia, Grupo Canalón, embodies traditional Afro-Colombian music. The voice of lead singer Nidia Góngora blends felicitously with the African-style chanting of a female chorus, backed by marimba and traditional percussion.
This Conversational Concert brings together Grupo Canalón and Afro-Colombian music expert and Chair of BU Musicology & Ethnomusicology Michael Birenbaum Quintero to perform and talk about Afro-Colombian music and culture, and the issues of race, history, politics, and economic development that affect Black life in Colombia.
Free & Open to the Public with Registration. Register for Zoom info: canalon-buconcert.eventbrite.com
