The former mayor heard from each of the Summer Fellows about their research and talked about the collaborative programs with various stakeholders that he implemented during his 20 years as mayor.  He urged the Summer Fellows to make sure they communicate the results of their projects outside of academic circles and also suggested that they consider careers in public service, saying they would find great rewards in focusing on work that directly helps people.

Others participating in the lunch and discussion included Pardee Center Director Anthony Janetos and Associate Director Cynthia Barakatt, and IoC Executive Director Katharine Lusk and Administrative Coordinator Conor LeBlanc.

The lunch with Prof. Menino was the last in a series of informal lunches the Pardee Summer Fellows have had with BU faculty members during the 10-week program.  They have also met with Pardee Faculty Fellows Kevin Gallagher (International Relations), Enrique Silva (MET College, City Planning and Urban Affairs), Susan Foster (International Health, School of Public Health),  Les Kaufman (Biology), and Lucy Hutyra (Earth & Environment).  The Fellows are producing research papers, due on Aug. 1, which will be considered for publication in one of the Pardee Center’s publication series.
