Faculty Research Fellow James McCann and Former Summer Fellow Kristen Carey Present at First Rocky Mountain Workshop on African History

Pardee Center Faculty Research Fellow Prof. James McCann and 2018 Graduate Summer Fellow Kristen Carey presented at the first Rocky Mountain Workshop on African History from August 9-11 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Carey, a PhD candidate in the Department of History, presented a paper titled “Bogeys and Misconceptions: The Formation and Portrayal of Tanzanian Population Policy: 1974-1981,” and Prof. McCann presented a paper on his new project, “A Fish Story: Global Harbingers and Human Perfidity in the Upper Nile Watershed.”

The workshop featured an international group of graduate students, junior faculty, and senior faulty making up five panels during the three-day workshop, which was designed to “provide Africanist historians with diverse backgrounds and research interests with the opportunity to present works in progress and receive both substantial commentary and supportive discussion from colleagues in a workshop atmosphere.”
