Adil Najam Speaks on “Democracy in the Muslim World” at Elmhurst College

Prof. Adil Najam, the Director of the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer Range Future gave a public lecture on “The Future of Democracy in the Muslim World” at Elmhurst College, Il,on April 13, 2008.
The lecture attracted an audience of nearly 200 which included Elmhurst college faculty and students and members of the public.
In the presentation and the question and answer session that followed Prof. Najam focussed on the current state of democracy in the Muslim world, future challenges for democracy in the Muslim world, and on the general trends in the relations between the West and the world of Islam.
Prof. Najam argued that there is a strong demand and desire for democracy in all parts of the Muslim world and role of democracy forces within and outside the Muslim world should be to nurture this desire for democracy.
