Dr. Noora Lori, who joined the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University as an assistant professor this fall, has been awarded the Best Dissertation award of the Migration and Citizenship section of the American Political Science Assocaiton (APSA). The award was presented at the 2014 meeting of APSA—the largest gathering of academic political scientists—held in Washington, DC, in late August.

Prof. Lori defended her dissertation, Unsettling State: Non-citizens, State Power and Citizenship in the United Arab Emirates,” last October at the Political Science department of Johns Hopkins University. Her research examines the development of citizenship and migration policies in the United Arab Emirates, where non-citizens make up 96 percent of the labor force.

This semester, her first at the Pardee School, Prof. Lori is teaching Introduction to Middle East Politics (CAS IR 300) and Comparative Immigration and Racial Politics (CAS IR 500).

Congratulations, Dr. Lori.
