Do It All
He owns a medical practice, directs the youth empowerment nonprofit Rebuild Africa, and is pursuing an executive MBA. Peter Choo (EMBA’15) shows you how to build a multilayered career.
1. BE FLEXIBLE Found a gap in your skill set? Don’t panic. Seize the opportunity to expand your knowledge, experience, and, in turn, your business or practice.
2. FIND SUPPORT Surround yourself with people who offer encouragement, wisdom, and the strength to help you pick yourself up when you stumble. It’s impossible to go it alone.
3. PREPARE Get your ducks in a row before embarking on a new endeavor like EMBA: make sure your family is on board and your employer approves, and confirm that your finances are in order.
4. KNOW WHAT’S POSSIBLE There’s a real danger in a caring profession of overextending. Understand your limitations and keep your priorities straight.
5. STAY HUNGRY Embrace the challenge of lifelong learning—whether it’s earning a new degree, joining a nonprofit, or seeking feedback from friends—and be grateful along the way.
