The Romance Studies Department bids a fond farewell to long-time French lecturer Davina Mattox, who is departing for a new post at the University of Oregon this fall.

“We are very sorry to lose Davina Mattox but so happy for her and her family as they embark on a new adventure in Oregon. Davina was such a generous, kind and hardworking colleague and instructor, and our programs in French and RS are certainly stronger thanks to her countless contributions. We wish her all the best at the University of Oregon and know how lucky her future students and new colleagues are to have her,” says Kate Lakin-Schultz, Head of the French Language Program.

Davina joined BU in the fall of 2011 and has taught a broad range of courses from first semester French up through the more specialized 300 level (5th/6th semester) French classes. She has also served multiple times as a course coordinator.

A French native, Davina pursued her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Oregon. She holds a Master’s in Romance Languages (French and Spanish) and a Master’s in Education with a teaching certification in French, Spanish and English as a second language.

She taught a variety of French language and culture courses for the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Oregon for five years; she also has taught at the secondary school level. Her interests center on foreign language pedagogy, teacher training, teaching through technology, Francophone comic books and French cinéma.
