Sembe Talks at ACLA

Karina Sembe attended the ACLA (American Comparative Literature Association) conference on April 11, presenting a paper titled “The Natural Man and the New Negro:  Reclaiming/Erasing the Subhuman in Modernist Manifestos,” as part of a panel on “Comparative Modernisms: Latin American modernismos in Global Networks.”

Karina tells us:

“I’m truly honored to be a member of ACLA and represent my field among prominent scholars. Unfortunately, last year’s meeting in Chicago was canceled due to Covid-19, but I’m glad the organizers gave us a chance to connect virtually a year later. The conversation on our panel “Comparative Modernisms” was nuanced and honest, and I hope to connect with my peers in person next year!”
