Arche, Student Philosophy Journal

Boston University’s student-led journal of philosophy, Arché, is now accepting submissions for the Spring 2022 issue, No. 11.

This latest issue, our first since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, will be devoted to explorations of language, literature, and the interactions thereof. By showcasing exemplary student-authored works, we intend to support the intellectual and professional development of these emerging scholars, literary critics, language philosophers, and linguists. We are particularly interested in writings which speak to the cross-disciplinary interchange within this area of discourse.

Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates, are invited to submit their work; those with questions about their eligibility to submit are encouraged to query. Authors who have not received an academic degree are also welcome to submit if they are under the age of 24.

We are open to submissions of various formats, including research papers, critical analyses, conference presentation materials, interviews, and original essays. Would you like to submit a video essay? We’re interested. Topics may address (but are not limited to) the following categories:

  • Literary semantics and literary pragmatics
  • Theories of interpretation (hermeneutics) and theories of language
  • Language formalization and literary style
  • Paralanguage in literature
  • Text linguistics and narratology
  • Mathematical logic and grammar
  • Rhetoric in philosophy
  • Cognitive poetics and stylistics
  • Philosophical aspects of translation

Submissions should be sent in PDF format to arche@bu.edu. No particular formatting or citation guidelines need to be followed during the initial phase of submission; we will advise authors as to our internal style and other production standards if and when a particular submission is selected for publication. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis through 2/1/2022.

We will be grateful if recipients of this message share our call for submissions with relevant audiences.

With thanks for your attention and support,
