Quispe Presents at LASA 2022
Doctoral student José Quispe (Hispanic Language & Literatures) presented at the recent Latin American Studies Association Conference (LASA 2022). He tells us about his presentation as follows:
As part of LASA 2022, I made a presentation about the novel Las malas by Argentine trans writer Camila Sosa Villada. This novel has been very well received in Latin America and Europe and will soon be translated into English under the title “Bad Girls”. My work focused on analyzing the kinship within the community of trans women that the novel describes, a community which deviates from the normative ideal of happiness, to live in a world full of possibilities and risks, always oriented by the bet of a desire. This gave rise to a very interesting discussion about queer communities, their spaces of resistance and the utopian and poetic potentialities that their lives present.
