Ohio State Hispanophone & Lusophone Symposium

We are pleased to announce that the call for papers is now open for the 24th Annual Hispanic and Lusophone Studies Symposium (OSUHALSS), which will be held virtually on March 12th-13th, 2021.

This year, we are delighted to welcome Dr. Ana Peluffo (UC Davis), Dr. Acauam Silvério de Oliveira (Universidade de Pernambuco) and Carol Rodrigues (Independent Director and Screenwriter) as keynote speakers. We welcome traditional papers, as well as works in other formats (including performance, creative writing, and video essays, among others) dealing with any aspect of race and affect in the literatures and cultures in the Luso-Hispanic world.

We aim to create a collaborative environment in which we can critically discuss issues and concerns. Talks will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation and may be given in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Abstracts are due by January 31st, 2021, should not exceed 250 words, and must be submitted via:

All the best,
