Boston Area Pedagogy Conference (BAPC)
The Department of World Languages and Literatures (WLL) at Boston University, with support from BU Center for Humanities and the Geddes Language Center invites proposals for the fourth Boston Area Pedagogy Conference to be held virtually on Friday, March 18, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
Through this conference we aim to offer opportunities for language educators and scholars in the Boston Area to reflect on, share, and showcase different teaching approaches and practices as well as discover untapped reserves of cross-departmental and inter-institutional potential for future collaboration. These dialogues have become even more critical in the post-pandemic world, where educators around the world are learning to adapt to unique personal and professional realities and work through moments of extreme uncertainty to create meaningful learning opportunities for a dispersed body of students. With this aim, we invite colleagues working in languages, literatures, cultures, cinema, writing, and area-studies to submit proposals for individual 15-minute papers and 60-minute full panel presentations by Friday January, 21, 2022 on the following theme:
Envisioning the Future of Learning and Teaching of
In the spirit of keeping this conference an open and inclusive dialogue on teaching, we welcome proposals on a wide range of topics. The topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:
● High leverage/core teaching practices
● Guiding learners to interpret authentic resources
● Effective uses of technology
● Genre-based approaches in language teaching
● Thematic curriculum design and performance-based assessment
● Literacy development
● Project-based learning
● Building learning and classroom communities
● Inclusive classroom practices
● Teaching for social justice
● Overcoming Socio-economic disparities and the digital divide in online teaching
● Program advocacy and seeking administrative support as educators
