Deciding on Grad School in Social Work and Choosing BUSSW

After graduating college I fell into therapeutic work as a teacher in an alternative public program for middle school students with emotional disabilities and behavioral problems. I fell in love with the therapeutic side of the work, collaborated closely with school social workers, and soaked up as much knowledge as I could from the program’s school psychologist. As it became increasingly clear that school social work was a better fit for me than teaching, I chose to get an MSW because of the many possibilities the degree allows for. I’m interested in school social work, immigrant and refugee populations, and community organizing and activism.

BUSSW was a clear choice for me. The faculty who spoke at admissions events inspired me. I wanted to take advantage of BUSSW’s strong Macro department while I received the clinical training I need in order to support vulnerable and oppressed populations in urban settings.
