BUSSW Faculty and Doctoral Students Presented at SSWR Conference
Several BUSSW faculty and doctoral students presented and moderated sessions at the Eleventh Annual Meeting of the Society for Social Work Research (SSWR), which was held January 11 to 14, in San Francisco.
Professor Maryann Amodeo was moderator for "Mainstreaming Substance Abuse Education: Crossing Interdisciplinary Boundaries" and co-presented a poster session with Professor Hyeouk Chris Hahm on “The Relationship Between Problem Behaviors and HIV Risky Sexual Behaviors Among Asian American Pacific Islanders: Findings from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health.” (Other co-presenters were Professor Al Ozonoff, Boston University School of Medicine, and Jieha Lee, a student in the Boston University Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Sociology and Social Work.)
Professor Hahm co-presented a poster on “Health Care Disparities and Language Use at Home Among Latino, Asian American, and American Indian Adolescents: Findings from the California Health Interview Survey” with Professor Rose Barreto of the University of California at Berekeley. She also has a poster presentation on “Do Home Environments Affect Maltreated Children’s Emotional/Behavioral Problems Differently in Racial/Ethnic Groups? Does Parental Responsiveness and Home Environment Affect Maltreated Children’s Emotional/Behavioral Problems Differently in Different Racial/Ethnic Groups?”
Professor Renee Spencer presented on “Understanding Relationship Failures in One-to-One Youth Mentoring Programs.” And, Professor Joseph Merighi had two presentations (with Professor Maria Dinis of California State University at Sacramento): “Emotional Labor, Job Demands, and Emotional Exhaustion Among Portuguese Social Workers” and “Alcohol Consumption, Medication Use, and Professional Functioning of Portuguese Social Workers.”
Two other doctoral students, Michelle Strout and Kelly Mills-Dick, presented “Evidence-Based Practices in Community Substance Abuse Prevention: Reports from the Front Line” and “Educating Geriatric Social Work Practitioners: A Model Program of Agency-Based Training,” respectively.
