Three BUSSW Graduates Among 2007 Massachusetts NASW Award Recipients

The Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers will be acknowledging eight exemplary social workers and public citizens in the social and human services arena on March 20, 2007, at the Newton Marriot Hotel, in Newton, Massachusetts. Among this year’s award winners are three BUSSW graduates—Margot Wizansky (’67), David Wizansky (’57), and Heather Pickard (’02).

This year’s award recipients are:

Social Workers of the Year: Margot and David Wizansky, respectively, the Executive Director and President of Specialized Housing Inc, Brookline.

Social Work Employer of the Year: Paul Levy, CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Greatest Contribution to Social Work Practice: Olga Roche, Regional Director of the Massachusetts Department of Social Services Northeast Region.

Social Worker with Less than Five Years Post-degree Experience: Heather Pickard, Deputy Director North Shore Community Action Program, Peabody.

Greatest Contribution to Social Work Education: Joanne Corbin, Associate Professor Smith College School of Social Work, Northampton.

Social Work Lifetime Achievement Award: Evelyn Bonander, Director Emeritus Social Service Department at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.

Public Citizen of the Year: Ellen Feingold, Executive Director of Jewish Community Housing, Brighton.

Beverly Ross Fliegel Award for Social Policy and Change: Charles Joffe-Halpren, Executive Director Ecu-Health Care, North Adams.
