WalletHub: Prof. Wilkinson on Volunteering vs. Donating Money

In WalletHub, a financial advice site that features a diverse community of subject matter experts, Geoff Wilkinson – BUSSW associate professor and director of the Leadership Core at the Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health (CISWH) – discusses the trade-offs between volunteering and making monetary donations.
Excerpted from “Charity Calculator“:
How should people consider the trade off between volunteering their time versus working more and donating extra money to charity?
There is an old adage that “time is money,” but fundraising consultants also remind non-profit managers, “You can’t take time to the bank.” The fact is that many organizations need contributions of both time and money. Non-profits addressing pandemic-related challenges may also need in-kind contributions, such as food, health supplies, and personal hygiene products. The decision of whether to volunteer time or donate money is deeply personal, and it is not necessarily an either/or proposition.
