Deciding on Grad School in Social Work and Choosing BUSSW
My areas of interest include substance abuse, mental illness and how our society can develop better methods of public education without perpetuating stigma.
My interest in social work started while working as a research coordinator for study protocols regarding mental health. It came by way of the public health field where I noticed a large scale problem with education regarding substance abuse and mental illness. I knew I wanted to be in a helping profession, but felt more compelled to work on a population scale to address problems I identified on a micro level. Then I came across BUSSW’s macro social work program, which was well established and focused on skills I was hoping to develop. I chose BUSSW because of this program and also because of their strong dual degree public health program.
