New Program to Train Geriatric Service Providers
The Institute for Geriatric Social Work (IGSW) at Boston University School of Social Work is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) to provide geriatric training to staff at twenty-seven Aging Services Access Points (ASAPs) serving older adults across the state. During this one-year partnership, IGSW will provide training to 270 case managers employed at ASAPs throughout Massachusetts.
The training program will be comprised of five online courses covering a range of topics essential to effective case management with older adults, including geriatric assessment, mental health, substance abuse, and the aging services network. Participants in the EOEA/IGSW-sponsored training program will receive twenty-one hours of online training, and a continuing education certificate in aging from Boston University. Through this new partnership, IGSW will assist EOEA in furthering its commitment to ensure that staff have access to high-quality professional training, and the core knowledge and skills required to work effectively with older adults and their families.
The Institute for Geriatric Social Work (IGSW) at Boston University is dedicated to advancing social work practice with older adults and their families. IGSW was established in 2002 through a five-year grant from The Atlantic Philanthropies (USA) Inc. to improve the quality and increase the availability of gerontological social work practice by helping social workers meet the challenges presented by the diverse and growing aging population. A leader in providing convenient, high-quality training, IGSW sponsors a range of online and face-to-face training programs to enable social workers and other human service professionals to gain knowledge and core practice skills in aging that they can apply directly in practice with older adults and their families.
