NARAL Pro Choice Mass. Job Opening
Communications & Social Media Internship (Fall 2016)
15-20 hours per week unpaid internship.
Start date: Late August/early September, exact day flexible.
Summary: Work with a dynamic, young, talented staff and immerse yourself in the day-to-day activities of a professional non-profit communications program. This position is perfect for a student interested in nonprofit communications, social media, and press coverage.
We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
- A commitment to reproductive rights and the mission of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts
- Outstanding written communication skills
- Working knowledge of dominant social media platforms with competency using them to engage and motivate grassroots supporters, media, and thought leaders
- Creativity and excitement about coming up with new and different ideas
- Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, including a demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel
- An ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility and a willingness to learn
- Reliability and an ability to work quickly under time pressure when needed
- A commitment to inclusion and to respecting diverse individuals and identities
- Involvement in politics, campaigns, online fundraising or prior communications experience is a plus
- Experience creating and/or editing websites in WordPress, HTML, etc. is a plus
- Experience with graphic design and familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. is a plus
Responsibilities:
The Communications & Social Media Intern will report to the Communications and Development Associate.
Communications:
- Create social media posts on Facebook and Twitter to support organization’s current campaigns;
- Supplement overall communications plans with creative content such as hashtags and other frameworks;
- Direct rapid response communications through Facebook and Twitter by updating content and increasing the size of our following;
- Update website content as needed
Press Relations:
- Track the organization’s press coverage and keep all records updated;
- Identify opportunities for press outreach;
- Maintain media list;
- Post press releases on organization’s website and social media
Administrative Support:
- Supports Communications and Development Associate with scheduling, filing, and correspondence as needed.
- Perform other administrative duties and tasks as assigned
Time Commitment and Compensation: 15-20 hours per week (flexible) between August-December 2016. This is an unpaid internship.
