As part of its mission to bring greater diversity to the nation’s scientific workforce, the 国家科学基金会 (NSF) recently awarded a two-year $300,000 grant to the School of Medicine to engage undergraduate students from underrepresented minorities and other disadvantaged groups in exploring career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (茎) outside of medicine. 琳达·海曼医学院新濠影汇线上赌场研究生医学科学部副教务长、美国国家科学基金会资助项目的首席新濠影汇线上赌场研究员说，这样的资助是必要的，因为很多来自代表性不足群体的学生没有意识到在学术界、生物技术和制药行业、科学传播、科学政策和技术/专利法方面的机会。

MED was one of 27 institutions to receive the award through the NSF’s two-year-old 在全国范围内纳入工程和科学领域代表性不足的发现者的学习者社区 (INCLUDES) program, which is aimed at enhancing leadership in 茎 discoveries and innovations through diversity and inclusion.

The new BU BEST NSF–funded project—called BEST BET, for Beginning Enhancement Track—is an opportunity to expose U大规模的洛厄尔 undergraduates to “what the research experience is, what a PhD student is,” Nugent says. “这不仅仅是去上课，而是做一些真正的事情。”

At Xavier University of Louisiana, 凯利约翰逊, an associate professor of chemistry, is part of a faculty team working to engage undergraduates from diverse backgrounds in exploring biomedical research careers through a national, NIH-funded 建设基础设施促进多样性 (BUILD) initiative. 约翰逊说，泽维尔大学已经通过BUILD和波士顿大学的BEST BET与波士顿大学合作，将为泽维尔大学的学生提供更多的机会，让他们第一手了解新濠影汇线上赌场研究职业。
